Run this before money moves, not after. It takes about twenty minutes and it is the highest-value twenty minutes in the whole process.
The platform
- Is the company named identically on the website, the contract, the invoice, and the receiving bank account? Mismatches are a serious signal.
- How old is the domain? Check WHOIS registration date. Under twelve months warrants caution; under three months warrants refusal.
- Does the site have a real physical address that resolves to an office rather than a virtual mailbox or a residential flat?
- Are the terms and conditions specific to this business, or generic text with another company's name still in it?
- Does the withdrawal policy exist, and does it state fees and timescales plainly?
The people
- Do the named executives exist independently of this website? Search them on professional networks and in news coverage.
- Reverse-image search every team photograph. Stock imagery and stolen headshots are common.
- Is the person who approached you willing to have a live, unscheduled video call? Refusal, or repeated technical failures, is meaningful.
- Does their account history predate their contact with you, and does it show ordinary activity?
The paperwork
- Is the firm on the regulator's register — checked on the regulator's own site, not through a link provided to you?
- Does the licence number belong to this company, at this address, with this website?
- Is the firm on any regulator's warning list? The FCA, ASIC, and many EU regulators publish these.
- If audited accounts are claimed, are they filed with a companies registry you can search?
The offer
- Are returns fixed or guaranteed? Regulated investments cannot promise either.
- Is there pressure to decide quickly, or a bonus contingent on speed?
- Is the strategy explained in terms you can follow, or does it rely on words like algorithm, arbitrage, and AI without specifics?
- Are you being discouraged from involving a lawyer, accountant, or family member?
- Were you asked to keep the opportunity confidential? Legitimate investments do not require secrecy from your own advisers.
The payment
- Are you paying a corporate account in the company's own name, or an individual's account?
- Are you being asked to use crypto, gift cards, a crypto ATM, or a "friends and family" transfer? All four remove your recourse.
- Is the receiving bank in a jurisdiction unrelated to the company's stated base?
- Has the payment destination changed at the last minute? That is a classic interception pattern — always re-verify by phone on a number you already had.
The exit test
Before increasing your position, request a withdrawal of a meaningful portion of what is already there. Not a token amount — enough that honouring it costs the operator something.
If the request produces new fees, tax demands, verification loops, or delays with shifting explanations, you have your answer. Do not send more money to release money.
If you are unsure
Slow down. Fraud depends on speed and isolation; both are within your control. Discuss the offer with someone uninvolved, and treat any resistance to that conversation as a finding in itself.
This guide is general information, not advice on your specific case
Every case turns on its own facts. If you have been defrauded, submit a report for a free assessment, and report the matter to your national fraud authority as well.
